Probiotics are interesting and may have potential for treating obesity and diabetes. There are also potential for treating disease by replacing 'bad' bacteria in our colons...
With regards to Probiotics, my understanding is that because of poor diet 'bad' bacteria overwhelms 'good' bacteria. The result is the bacteria effect your food craving (because the bad bacteria want more simple carbs.) and the problem snowballs into obesity and diabetes.
I think (hypothesize ?) that cereal consumption (carbs) and the increased sugary cereals in the past 30 years has resulted in the increase in diabetes (Type 2). The problem is if we grow up eating cereal (because of bacteria in our guts) we end up fighting our weight for the rest of our lives. Taking a Probiotic and changing our eating habits acts as a reset button in our guts (theoretically).
Personally, I take a Probiotic but I still eat (low sugar) cereal and add hemp granola (protein) to it. I also alternate cereal with yogurt...
I changed my breakfast eating habits after watching a review on youtube (on Dexcom - glucose monitor) were the girl had spikes in glucose after eating a bagel for breakfast but had stable glucose after eating several peanut butter cookies (protein).
Until there are some clinal trials I'll just be guessing. The problem who is going to fund them...still it's an interesting topic for discussion but as investors I don't see how we are going to make any money at it.
