Just heard on the morning news Puerto Rico won't have electricity for weeks and has no way to keep insulin refrigerated. Huge problem.
Mannkind is on a Federal schedule through the VA. FEMA today could do an emergency purchase through this schedule to get the needed afrezza to save lives. Mike may want to make some calls and let them know.

No need to panic, insulin lasts at least a month without refrigeration. That's plenty of time to bring in more insulin as usual. There will be some shortfall where people have lost their insulin along with their house but FEMA is more than able to cope with that. |

Hi all,
I just joined to respond to this. I saw a posting on Facebook with no info....googled and this thread popped up.
The call was generic - for physicians, hospitals, etc to send insulin.
I posed the question to my manager. We are a large healthcare system in Springfield MA. MANY of our employees are Puerto Rican and have family and friends in PR.
So, if we were somehow to help, what would that look like? I see that insulin lasts awhile unrefrigerated but I know that depends on external temperature and is not true for all types. Also I see that FEMA could buy a lot of insulin, but it seems the transportation and distribution is a huge issue. Who is working on that and is there a way we can help?
Please be aware that I am only collecting the info so my manager can take it higher up the administrative chain. But I'll be grateful if you can guide me and maybe my employer will actually be help in some kind of substantive way.

I hope Mike doesn't start losing credibility by teasing all these things that then turn out to simply be smoke and mirrors. |
