So, admittedly, I haven't been super impressed with Afrezza. I am happy with it, but not with the 4U cartridges and needing to take so many to achieve the desired result. I was also not happy with the cough and constriction I felt after using Afrezza the first couple of days, but I stuck with it, and that improved drastically.
I'm 6 days in, and I've used over half of my months supply due to my Dr. prescribing one 4-unit box, not being aware of my needs. That is not his fault, however. As long as he updates the Rx for me when I send him in my numbers later this week, all is good.
Anyways, today I did a real test. I had about 75 carb lunch, and decided to take more than the previous maximum 3 that I've done at one time. My I:C is 1:4, so on Novolog I would need around 18units. On Afrezza, I took 20.
At one hour I was at 130, and 1.5 hours 107. These are extraordinary results for me. I can't wait until the 12U carts come out this summer!

Thank you for your honest opinion. Like any new product it will take some time to get your individual settings correct for your needs. However imagine the possibilities once you are dialed in. It is a paradigm shift so getting used to new standards for dosing etc will take time for many. Candidly I am not a diabetic but I do have a57 year old brother who has been a T1 since the age of 8 and it has really messed with his life. Continued success!

With change comes a learning curve. It seems that with Afrezza it will just take some time for individuals to learn the right dose for themselves. It appears that everyone will be quite different. The most important thing is that you learn what is right for you. Congratulations on you success. Can't wait for the 12u cartridges to come out.

What will be interesting to see is if over time you experience you end up using less units as your body gets more accustomed to afrezza.

Thanks for the update. You were one of those rare cases who weren't impressed by Afrezza then. Glad you like it now. You should get the pack that has 60 8U and 30 4U.

I think most people are going to go thru the learning curve like you are, and will underdose vs their current RAA. Once they get the hang of it, I suspect most will reach similar conclusions to what youre seeing.

Wow, dmb, I think you've captured the all-time record for most likes of a post within the first two hours. By a LOT.

Yeah. At 2.5 hours I has risen to 151, BUT I think this is mostly due to my Lantus dosing not being on point. Once I get my lantus dose figured out, I think Afrezza will work even better for me.

I wonder how this will affect the drop-out rate. (or rate of continuation after the samples) Afrezza did showed higher drop out in clinical trials.

I would cough quite a bit 15 mins or so after taking it, and feel wheezy. Which is really odd bc I have not had asthma symptoms since I was 12 years old, and passed my Spirometry with flying colors. However, as stated, today I took 5 carts back to back, no cough, no constricted airway/wheezy feeling

Congrats on your success with Afrezza. Please continue to keep us all updated on how you are doing. As with many new medications it can take a while until you get adjusted to it. Sounds like your getting your dosing down pretty well and this to takes some time. Once you do, if your like others who have their dosing correct then your life will continue to get better on Afrezza, and that's what it's all about with Diabetes. My wife is type 2 just so you know. Thanks again for the honest post. I wish you continued success.

dmb247,
I will have one light cough about 1/2 the time. it is just like Al Mann has often described. I have never had 2 coughs or more. i really think that I may be causing the cough by inhaling too deeply and or maybe too long sometimes. I had no urge to cough my last two doses today. Maybe, I'm a slow learner. I certainyunderstand where multiple doses will be harder to get used to. Not to worry, the 12 unit is on the way.
Good Luck,
Spiro

The 12u cartridges are due to be approved in less than 8 weeks, if I recall. Can anyone confirm?
