Mark your calendar... GSHP Fall Meeting October 16-18, 2015 Brasstown Valley Resort Young Harris, GA Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most common chronic conditions worldwide and is characterized by episodes of hyperglycemia due to either a lack of insulin production or a decrease in insulin sensitivity. Uncontrolled DM may result in microvascular and macrovascular complications, which increase the risk of morbidity and mortality. The two main types of diabetes are type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) usually occurs earlier in life and involves the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas that leads to a lack of insulin production in these individuals. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) usually occurs later in life and involves insulin resistance or a decrease in the body’s insulin response. As a result, hyperglycemic episodes occur in these individuals despite generally normal insulin production. Insulin is considered first-line treatment for T1DM while oral antidiabetic medications are typically recommended as initial therapy in patients with T2DM. As the prevalence of patients who are diagnosed with T2DM at a younger age increases, insulin products are increasingly utilized in this population due to significant pancreatic betacell loss later on in life. The hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) goal for most patients is < 7%. This goal can be less or more stringent depending on a patient’s age, co-morbidities, and preferences.1 www.gshp.org/myJSSImages/file/june%202015%20final.pdf

Still have not seen or heard of one in the Los Angeles area....... A lot of Afrezza awareness already there, thanks to the local press (I did a search for "Afrezza Los Angeles" and was impressed with results). As I recall, some early adopter physicians there very early.

At this late October ACPA dinner, members of the Pennsylvanie Pharmacists Association attended a presentation of Toujeo and Afrezza together. www.papharmacists.com/events/event_details.asp?id=686117The presenting pharmacist's RSVP is @sanofi. I think I'll email this presenter to see if I can get a schedule of upcoming dinner presentations...

KC, as I mentioned on ST, these meetings seemed to drop off a cliff after last Oct. Why weren't there more of them and now this one just popping up in the search results in the last ~14 hours? You could be right but it's just weird that one pops up and so close to the potential hand back date. Could very well be nothing & SNY just trying to cover their butt.

I don't think they are done with us yet. The meeting in SD. The results! They messed up! And now they have to face the fact we're going forward. They thought perhaps that we would lay down and die. Couldn't get us cheap after approval. So they partnered. Still playing chess IMO.
