Spiro as I understand it you are a T2 who is only using Afrezza. Also do I understand correctly that you were never on a GLP-1 such as Metformin? This would make you among the first to begin the paradigm shift as I understand current T2 treatment protocols generally look at products like Metformin first and then finally basal insulin. Congratulations for beginning the paradigm shift...

Mannmade,
You are exactly right, I am a Type 2 without any exposure to any diabetes medications except for Afrezza 4mg. I asked my doctor about Afrezza and we decided to give it try. Because the early results were acceptable, I will be staying on Afrezza for at least 3 months and then repeat blood work. I don't know about this paradigm shift stuff, but I sure the heck wasn't going to take Metformin. Spiro thinks the word of Afrezza will spread like wild fire from diabetic to diabetic, from doctor to doctor and then from country to country. Ok, I'm stopping before Liane thinks I'm pumping again.

What is very significant about spiro being placed on Afrezza is that he is T2 and oral anti-diabetic naive, insulin naive. Most of the insurance plans we were seeing in the past few months had these criteria for prescribing Afrezza: Now certainly if you want to pay out of pocket, you can have any drug your doctor will prescribe. But getting insurance to pay usually requires adhering to their criteria. And certainly, spiro's physician could be really good at making prior authorizations go through. But it sounds like spiro had an extremely easy time getting this approved. The paradigm could shift faster than any of us would think possible.

Spiro doesn't want to be famous. He wants MNKD;s share price to be much higher than his A1C level, not much lower. I am sitting here with my glucose level at 82, three hours after dinner, totally convinced that Afrezza is the real deal. It's rather obvious that something extraordinary is happening. Spiro would appreciate it, if someone could explain how he has gotten to these favorable glucose levels so quickly. He thought it would take much longer.

The rapidity of the response should not surprise you. You're finally getting insulin precisely when you need it, and not when you don't.

The Afrezza takes the place of your first phase insulin which your pancreas isn't doing a very good job of producing. Your pancreas then takes over for the second phase and basal insulin which it still does okay. Afrezza also suppresses hepatic glucose production which keeps your BS low too. Another benefit is you are less hyperinsulinemic which would tend to cause less insulin resistance. Oh, and btw, YOU are the exact patient many of us have been waiting for but no one will do a study on because it's not the standard of care. It soon will be.

Spiro, if its not too personal, am i right in thinking that you were first an investor in Mannkind, and diagnosed T2 at some point after? I think you must be among the first in THAT category if this is the case. Another trailblazer...especially not being on any other meds for it as it opens up a new frontier for doctors to now consider. ANd patients not be afraid to bring it up and request Afrezza sooner rather than later

Liane and Tripoley, thanks for answering my question. Kball, don't worry, Spiro tells all. He has owned MNKD a lot longer than his diabetes diagnosis. After listening to Al Mann talk about Afrezza for so long, it was sort of a no-brainer to push my doctor try Afrezza. My insurance company has paid for the first month. We are working on month's 2 and 3. If I have to, I will pay out of pocket to continue on Afrezza.
