Google shows Carl R Sahi appears to  be CEO at a co called "Engineered Biopharmaceuticals" in Danville VA. He seems not to have worked at mnkd.  "https://www.linkedin.com/in/carl-sahi-6969a552"

The others seem to be current or recent mnkd staff, easily found on google, but Polidoro is apparently VP at Engineered Biopharmaceuticals (its unclear whether Polidoro is or is not currently at mnkd but he seems  to have been at least as late as 2015 according to this link www.waybetterpatents.com/comingsoon/digests/patents/CT/CT_20150428_inventors.html  )

I think the interesting one is Sahi since one would expect employees or former employees to be named in patents for work to  which they contributed but less so in the case of people apparently not connected with mnkd. Does anyone recall mnkd partnering with Engineered Biopharmaceuticals?  Am I wrong and  Sahi is a former employee? Perhaps he or his company were contracted as part of the work but if so would they be named as coinventors?

This calls to mind a possibility that basal  insulin could be delivered using the Tamarisk/Engineered Biopharmaceuticals oral route one or two oral pills a day, with afrezza as ultrarapid prandial, in the future, who knows. Fly in ointment seems to be that Tamarisk's insulin pills currently in rats seem to peak insulin 30mins which is more like prandial but perhaps thats a technology capable of adjustment for use as basal somehow (and they do mention an "extended release" technology). Interesting to see this connection with Mannkind via the patent inventors and Engineered Biopharmaceuticals inc.

In other embodiments, the microparticles are stable at high pH and disintegrate at neutral or basic pH, or are stable at neutral pH and disintegrate at high or low pH. In the most preferred embodiment the microparticles are formed in the presence of the drug to be delivered, for example, insulin, felbamate, calcitonin or heparin. The diketopiperazine synthetic intermediates are preferably formed by cyclodimerization to form diketopiperazine derivatives at elevated temperatures under dehydrating conditions, functionalized on the side chains, and then precipitated with drug to be incorporated into microparticles

Deketopiperazine is in our food, essential component of "taste", in particular in cocoa, the Maillard reaction----ie, browning, carmelization, all the wonderful tastes/smell of real food.

Abstract

Food choices and eating habits are largely influenced by how foods taste. Without being the dominant taste sensation, bitter taste contributes to the complexity and enjoyment of beverages and foods. Compounds that are perceived as bitter do not share a similar chemical structure. In addition to peptides and salts, bitter compounds in foods may include plant-derived phenols and polyphenols, flavonoids, catechins, and caffeine. Recent studies have shown that humans possess a multitude of bitter taste receptors and that the transduction of bitter taste may differ between one compound and another. Studies of mixture interactions suggest further that bitter compounds suppress or enhance sweet and sour tastes and interact with volatile flavor molecules. Caffeine, a natural ingredient of tea, coffee, and chocolate, has a unique flavor profile. Used as a flavoring agent, it enhances the sensory appeal of beverages. Research developments on the genetics and perception of bitter taste add to our understanding of the role of bitterness in relation to food preference.

These microparticles include microcapsules, which have an outer shell composed of either the heterocyclic compound alone or in combination with one or more drugs. The heterocyclic compounds of the present invention include, without limitation, diketopiperazines, diketomorpholines and diketodioxanes and their substitution analogs. The heterocyclic compositions of the present invention comprise rigid hexagonal rings with opposing heteroatoms and unbonded electron pairs.

Sure does, also mentions cannabinoids three times. Bryan R. Wilson now works for Cara Therapeutics, Inc., a company targeting the endocannabinoid receptors. Check 'em out. Even though, personally, I think there is a lot more to it than just this. 😁🤔
