There is an opportunity here with this racing sponsorship for MannKind's Marketing Team to capitalize on the image of speed. Speed and control are essential to win the Indianapolis 500. They're also essential for winning against diabetes.

Lilly also ended Ryan Reed's (a T1D) sponsorship last year too. Now Ryan Reed is sponsored by Dexcom! I don't believe that many people was even aware of an alleged inappropriate word used by Coner Daly's father over 3 decades ago before he was even born, until Eli Lilly made a public announcement about it. It was an unprofessional and hypocritical move on Eli Lilly's part. Based on the Reddit comments and others within articles that I have read, the fans completely support Coner Daly and were glad to see Eli Lilly go (most of the comments showed a stern dislike for Eli Lilly in general). Maybe Ryan Reed will now want to try out Afrezza with his DexCom...

Would be Cool to see Conor in the winners circle having to inhale Afrezza before he drinks the traditional winners bottle of milk

It was an unprofessional and hypocritical move on Eli Lilly's part. Based on the Reddit comments and others within articles that I have read, the fans completely support Coner Daly and were glad to see Eli Lilly go (most of the comments showed a stern dislike for Eli Lilly in general). Eli was reacting to events that came out earlier the week it severed ties with Conor Daly. Eli may have over-reacted, but it was in a tough place. "Bob Lamey, who worked as radio play-by-play announcer for the Indianapolis Colts for over 30 years, retired suddenly on Sunday. News station 13 WTHR later revealed that he had used the N-word off the air, in front of a black colleague. Lamey’s use of the word was technically reported speech, as he was relaying what a person had once said at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway nearly 35 years ago, back when Lamey used to work there." Lamey recounted that the slur came from Daley Sr. Daley Sr. then made a public statement that, no, it was not him. But Daley Sr. also admitted to using the slur in other contexts back in the day. Daley Sr. made the first public announcement, that Eli had to respond to. So it was already big news, that had already gotten a longtime popular announcer fired / retired, before Eli severed ties. As I said, quite arguably Eli over-reacted. But all of this happened 1, 2, 3 in the span of 3 or 4 days. It was news before Eli got involved. And Eli had to address it one way or the other, because Conor was racing that very weekend. deadspin.com/former-colts-announcer-who-used-n-word-was-quoting-auto-1828557737 www.indystar.com/story/sports/motor/2018/08/23/derek-daly-says-he-slandered-bob-lamey/1076377002/

Liane - Shouldn't your response have been to move the post about climate change to "off topic"? I agree with much of what was said, but it has nothing to do with MNKD. For the record, you once moved an article I posted that discussed diet and its relationship to diabetes after scolding me for posting it here in the "all about MNKD" section. Just sayin'. This is some silly chit. How old are you? Old enough to remember when rules were followed regardless of whether the topic is politically charged or not. Was just making the point that climate change discussions don't belong here on the MNKD feed. There is already enough clutter in life, lets not put it here as well. I personally have written law to address concerns over sea level rise. Should we discuss that here? Of course not. For what it's worth I truly value Liane's efforts to keep threads to their point in the past - just thought it was ironic to see her not following the very rules she enforces.

BTW, Longstockings first name is not "Pipi". Although, I have been considering changing the logo just to keep you all guessing.

I’m very revved up about the Conor Daly sponsorship. I used to think racing was boring, but I’ve had the chance to watch a few NASCAR races and an Indy car race in person and the whole event is quite fascinating. The stands at the racetrack I visited held around 100,000 fans. There are pre-race festivities such as a concert, track passes to visit the pits, vendor and car exhibits and product promotions and give aways outside the stadium, tail gating barbeque parties. And, oh yeah, a race with thundering (if NASCAR) screaming (Indy) cars flying around the track with dozens of drivers jockeying for position (just like horse race jockeying). The product placement opportunities are significant, and hocking engine oil and STP is all well and good, but a smiling handsome athlete in an exciting sport were speed and control are everything is custom ordered for promoting the salient qualities of Afrezza inhalable human insulin. Can’t wait to see how well Mannkind is able to capitalize on this marketing move.
