Without looking it up, can anyone recall who opened or closed the NASDAQ bell yesterday? How about within the past week? Month?

Gotta assume FDA approval will be happening before the bell ring, in which case the approval is what’s important, not ringing the bell.
Whoever gave the analogy of getting your star on Hollywood Blvd, that’s right on point. It’s a nice thing and can be parlayed with marketing to pretend like it’s a big deal, but basically anyone can apply for their star on the Blvd, and if the committee says yes then you get to write a check to pay them for the privilege. Still it’s a nice photo op and “fifteen minutes of fame.” Getting your star on the Blvd has about as much correlation to future success as does ringing the Nasdaq bell.
As uvula said, it’s not a bad thing at all, but what’s way more important is FDA approval and the best case scenario is the timing of this bell thing is not a coincidence. Without that approval in hand, the bell ringing will be a head scratcher a la buying a competing product to Afrezza.

Without looking it up, can anyone recall who opened or closed the NASDAQ bell yesterday? How about within the past week? Month? To your point: Your memory isn’t a video camera, recording a constant stream of every sight and sound you’re exposed to — you can only capture and retain what you pay attention to and since you can’t pay attention to everything, you’ll be able to remember some aspects of what is happening before, but not others. Nonetheless, it's an opportunity to raise brand awareness, regardless if only less than 5% remember, if a few million are watching. Those likely paying attention? PWD, doctors, and anyone suffering or dealing with this disease.

Without looking it up, can anyone recall who opened or closed the NASDAQ bell yesterday? How about within the past week? Month? Awesomo, my guess is you are not the target audience, nor are most people on this board. Nor do any of us really know the desired outcome from ringing the bell. It is entirely possible that MNKD applied for this date months ago with the hope that the NDA would be approved ahead of it. As the company ringing the bell you are allowed to invite guests to stand up there, seven stories above the exchange floor, it is an impressive thing to participate in. Now let's say approval comes Friday (big if I know), you don't think Martine is standing up their too or at a minimum has been invited. What an impressive way to cement a partnership. Maybe Mike invites the CEO and their family of our next or potential partner to participate, creates a very memorable event that will stick in their mind as they evaluate MNKD. That person becomes bigger than life in the eyes of their family. These once in a lifetime opportunities create an amazing amount of goodwill with those invited to attend. The shine of the moment rubs off on the host company and stays for a long time.

Mnkd is considered a penny stock. Has there ever been any penny stocks ring a opening bell in nasdaq? Why would nasdaq allow this to happen when any stocks less than $5 is off limits to most funds to buy?

Without looking it up, can anyone recall who opened or closed the NASDAQ bell yesterday? How about within the past week? Month? I heard they buy stock on the Nasdaq stock exchange. But I don’t work there and neither does anyone here.

You're talking about the NYSE bell, which has a much more storied history.

If the idea is to 'celebrate' Tyvaso DPI approval, shouldn't UTHR be ringing the bell (of course, with MNKD as guest)?

Why would nasdaq allow this to happen when any stocks less than $5 is off limits to most funds to buy? Of course. You don't even need to be representing a Nasdaq listed corporation to ring the bell: celebrities, politicians, charitable foundations, advocacy groups, etc. do it as well.

It is entirely possible that MNKD applied for this date months ago with the hope that the NDA would be approved ahead of it. It is entirely possible that MNKD wanted to ring the bell the same day it announced the purchase of VGO last week, but the first available bell ringing opportunity was the week following (i.e. next week).

So this is another nothing burger unless this event comes with a partnership with big pharma for Afrezza?
